Strange pyramid-hatted man stalking Covent Garden

24Jul06

Anyone fancy a guess at what this chap might be doing wearing a pyramidal hat made out of what looks like thick metal wire? He was sauntering around Covent Garden this Sunday with a relatively normal looking companion. I saw him twice and it was too much to resist, I had to try and grab a photo as he retreated swiftly towards Cambridge Circus. As I rushed after him I was caught up in a tidal wave of comments, “Did you see that guy? He was wearing a pyramid on his head!”

Any suggestions welcome!

Edit: Someone on Flickr has seen him too!

This could be a variant on the tin foil hat, which we all know. It could be that magical forces generated by pyramids can shield the brain against harmful rays or mind probes in the same way as the standard tin foil hat.

It could also be like the Devo energy dome which (Devo thinks) channels orgone energy into the brain.

Or it could be symbolic, or the badge of a secret society that most of us don’t know of.

    Why didn’t you ask him?

I so wish I had asked him. My only defence is that I was quite a distance from him AND I was a bit nervous to ask! Next time, I promise!

Perhaps it’s somehow helping him solve a mathematical problem, whilst doubling as fabulous fashion accessory.

I saw him remove the pyramid and put it in a bag after he got off the Met Line in Pinner!

I saw this guy today when i came back from school on the train (Met line). He got on the last carriage at Northwood Hills at about 4:10 – 4:15 and was still on the train (with his hat on) when i got off at Pinner. How can he not be embarrassed?

Perhaps he is using his head to block a pyramid shaped gateway to the Egyptian underworld – in which case we all owe him one.

Until then let the ridicule continue.

I saw the very same man on Thursday in the BFI library. Everyone was incredibly polite, as if there was nothing untoward.

It smacks of “pyramid power” to me.

I saw someone wearing the exact thing in CT. I was behind him in the grocery store and wanted to ask, but didn’t. (Kind of like, asking: “Why do you wear those shoes, or shirt.”) I just wished I knew more about what it meant so I wouldn’t be so ignorant on the topic of pyramid wire hats! So I looked it up on the Internet and….found this web blog string. I will say that the men seemed to be a wanderer, poorly clothed and very tan and not too clean. Or.. he just made a life choice to live outside. At any rate, I’d still like to know what it is about. It is interesting!

I saw this guy in Curries on Oxford St and tried to snatch a photo – he was wearing a staggeringly ordinary suit/tie combo and the mind boggling Sun-Ra/Egyptology wire pyramidal hat. I’ve been wondering who he was and really wanted to ask him. Is it something to do with + or – ions and some sort of condition maybe. Looks great.

I’m astounded to find this blog.

This guy is often in a Pinner coffee shop, head in hand, writing somthing with great concentration.

    Amazing.

Cheers for the link, Cindy. They’re surprisingly expensive, it seems.

Well my mate asked him for a tenner (which we never actually gave him), apparently he wears it because he believes that it sharpens his mind and improves concentration throughout the day to generally improve your standard of working and stuff… there you have it…

    Yes!
I am so pleased to have found this blog!
I wanted to ask him too.

    Thanks for the info

I’m related to this individual, and he wears it because of none of the above. He wears the “cho-cho” as a sign of worship to an ancient african war god.

I asked golden pyramid man why he was wearing it and he said it was to detoxify the brain and so he doesn’t get tired out by the london pollution

I am almost 100% sure I spotted this guy at Harrow On the Hill tube station. He was wearing the wire pyramid on his head and a gold chain of sorts.

I saw this chap of someone a lot similar in Pret on corner of St Martin’s Lane this week (Tues around 6pmish).

Thought is it was a bit bizarre to say the least and perhaps something spiritual. Left him to his own peace/skinny mocha double lattechino.

I would love to see him again and ask him myself!
